Q. Do hand-addressed envelopes get more response? I've read that people will be more likely to open a hand-addressed envelope they receive in the mail as opposed to one with a label address. Is it worth the extra effort? A. Marketing expert, Joe Gracia, responds: Not in our experience it isn't. While it may be true that a hand-addressed envelope gets more attention initially, and may get more envelopes opened, if the offer in the envelope doesn't interest the recipient it is not going to increase your response. We did quite a few test mailings years ago using both hand addressed envelopes as well as label addressed envelopes and we saw no difference in response. There are two critical factors in effective direct mail: 1) Your List and 2) Your Offer Send your mailing to the wrong list and you'll get little or no response. Send the wrong offer and you'll get little if any response. Focus on targeting the right people with the right offer and you'll do much better than spending your time hand-addressing envelopes to people who have no interest in what you are sending to them. Our Give to Get Marketing Solution will show you how to easily target just the people who have an interest in what you are selling, and how to create an irresistible offer that will get your phone ringing off the hook.
